Frequently asked questions

NEBOSH GIC (International General Certificate) is one of the prime health and safety qualifications and a mark of international excellence. It lets you be recognised for your health and safety knowledge anywhere in the world. Whether you are an employer or an employee, it gives you a set of practical, valuable skills.

IOSH stands for the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, the Chartered body for health and safety professionals. It is a UK-based organisation offering professional qualifications that raise standards of health and safety in the workplace.

Since 2026 the two units are called GIC1 and GIC2.

GIC1, Management of health and safety: why we should manage workplace health and safety; how health and safety management systems work and what they look like; managing risk by understanding people and processes; health and safety monitoring and measuring.

GIC2, Risk assessment: physical and psychological health; musculoskeletal health; chemical and biological agents; general workplace issues; work equipment; fire; electricity.
